Key Features

  • Compact Size: 17.2lbs and total dimensions of 10.6 x 10.2 x 8.9", this compact generator can go wherever you go. Conveniently placed ergonomic handles allow for easy transport. Also, light weight, foldable NextGen solar panels add to overall portability. This makes the Ecoflow River 2 Pro ideal for outdoor camping trips, RV's. and emergency backup.
  • X Boost: When this feature is activated, it provides an extra surge of power that allows you to run some appliances at twice the rated wattage of the inverter. It does so by dropping the voltage to allow more amps. This temporary power elevation is designed to accommodate up to 80% of most household appliances without overheating.
  • Pass Through Charging allows the RIVER 2 Pro Generator to charge through the NextGen solar panel at the same time the generator is charging devices or appliances. This extends the time that larger, high energy consuming appliances can run uninterrupted.
  • Multiple Ways to Charge: This generator can be charged using: NextGen Solar panel ( approximately 3 - 6 hours, depending on sun availability), AC (approximately 1 hour), USB (approximately 6 hours), or Car Charging (approximately 6 hours)

Advantages & Disadvantages

The Ecoflow River 2 Pro Solar Generator offers several worthwhile advantages as well as some disadvantages consumers should consider before purchasing.  Reviewing the pros and cons will help gain better insight as to whether or not this model is right for you.

Advantages of this Product:

Portability

Considering the enhanced capabilities of this model, The  Ecoflow River 2 Pro is exceptionally lightweight and compact. This generator and foldable solar panel combo can easily go anywhere you go!

Extra Power When Needed

Once activated, the Boost function elevates total AC output of the EF Ecoflow River 2 Pro Solar Generator to an impressive 1,400W of power when using XBoost. This is powerful enough to run appliances like a standard refrigerator for 1 - 2 days without overheating. The Pass Through Charging feature can prolong this period to several days due to the ability to simultaneously charge the generator while powering devices and appliances.

Durable Construction

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are known for their stability and safety. The particular battery used in the Ecoflow River 2 Pro is built to withstand up to 3,000 charges. This translates into approximately 10 years of average usage. The battery is encased within a rugged, durable casing for added longevity.

Disadvantages of this Product:

Higher Price Point

EF Ecoflow River 2 Max Solar Generator has a higher price point compared to other portable power stations on the market. While a case can be made that this model provides greater energy efficiency, it may not fit everyone's budget.

Limited Run Time for High Energy Using Appliances

Even with Pass Through Charging engaged, run duration is still fairly limited when powering most appliances. Added to this concern is not all appliances are suitable for usage.

Potential X-Boost Concerns

Using Ecoflow's X-Boost feature offers a significant power enhancement. But, reports indicate damage to certain appliances has accrued while in this mode. Using generators that reduce amps while increasing volts can have negative impact on appliances that do not rely solely on pure resistive loads. This Includes appliance like refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines.

Charging Time

When relying solely on solar energy, cloudy, overcast days will extend the length of charging times.

Conclusion:

Ecoflow's River 2 Pro is the latest and most robust iteration of this series. While the bulk of the feature orientation remains the same, one big difference is the increase in capacity. The current River 2 Pro model has 768Wh, compared to the previous River 2 Max which offered 512w. This is a considerable step up in power. The NextGen Bifacial 220W Portable Solar is also an enhancement over the capabilities of the 160w model included with the River Max solar station. Keep in mind, Like the River 2 Max, the River Pro generator can support many, but not all larger appliances, and only for a relatively short duration. If you are looking to provide long term power for these appliances, checking out some more powerful systems may be in your best interest. However, this model can offer additional peace of mind during short term extra power for emergencies. For sure, the Ecoflow River 2 Pro is not the lowest price option available. That said, Ecoflow products have a long running track record of quality and reliability and are backed by a comprehensive 5 year warranty. Our conclusion here is that this model is a sound investment as long as it fulfills your needs and expectations.
