Solar Panels
Solar panels are the most important element of any solar energy system. They are the means by which sun rays are captured and converted into electrical energy. Photovoltaic cells composed of semiconductor materials, generate a direct current (DC) when exposed to sunlight.
Inverter
The inverter converts DC electricity produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC). AC power is what most household appliances use.
Electrical panel
AC electricity from the inverter is sent to the electrical panel, also known as the breaker box. The electrical panel allows solar-generated electricity to be used by the home's electrical system.
Solar Batteries
Battery components store excess energy generated by solar panels. This allows energy to be stored during times when solar panels are not generating electricity, such as at night or during periods of low sunlight. Storing energy during off peak periods allows homeowner's to take advantage of time-of-use (TOU) electricity pricing. TOU rates vary depending on the time of day, with higher rates during peak demand periods. Storing excess solar energy saves money by avoiding these high usage periods.
Utility Grid Connection
An appropriately sized solar energy system typically has the ability to satisfy the electricity needs of a residential home. That said, solar homes are usually connected to the grid. This allows excess solar electricity generated during the day to be sent back to the grid for credits and used at night or when the solar system isn't producing enough electricity. Remaining connected to the grid ensures a constant supply of electricity for your home.
Solar Energy Monitoring System
The role of a residential solar monitoring system is to track and analyze the systems overall performance. Monitoring systems offer real-time data on energy production and consumption. This allows homeowners to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of their solar system and make adjustments if necessary.
